A Happy, Healthy and Blessed New Year to all my blog Followers. Moving on from my last post where our beautiful Australian Rainbow Lorikeet was featured, which grace our native nectar producing flowers each Spring and Summer, we consider another beautiful visual wonder from which our bird gained its name – the rainbow in the sky that appears after the storm has passed.

The Bible records that the true and living God who Created our world, flooded it because of the selfish destructive lifestyles of most of its human inhabitants, thousands of years ago. God promised never to flood the whole earth in judgement ever again. Each time the rainbow appears in the sky it is a reminder of God’s firm promise. Why the bow, because we only see it at the end of the storm. Many scientists today believe that the true origin to most of our fossil record, canyons, subterranean caves, sedimentary rock and oil and gas reserves were the indirect result of this world flood event, which many world cultures attest to in their ancient records.
You can read the Biblical record for yourself in Genesis 9:1-17 as God’s promise was made to all people, which includes you and me. The rainbow is a sign today of hope and restoration, which we all desire for our lives as we enter a new year. It is an opportunity for New Beginnings or New Year Beginnings. Many in the world suffering from hunger, war, grief and destructive loss are in desperate need of hope. The presence of the joyful chatter of pairs of Rainbow Lorikeet helps to convey this hope as we hear them feeding excitedly in our nectar rich native flowers.

We saw these birds nesting beside Lake Albert, Wagga Wagga on New Years Day. Notice the juveniles highlighted inside the nesting hole. The busy and dedicated task of nesting can only be maintained with the hope that the parents will raise living and thriving fledglings, even through the most adverse weather conditions they never give up hope.

Here we catch this pair feeding on eucalypt blossom. Unlike other nectar eaters, the Lorikeet does not have a tubular withdrawable (straw-like) tongue and must flick the nectar into its mouth using its thick short tongue.
Enjoy a wonderful week and live and maintain a thankful joyous spirit with an ‘attitude of gratitude’ and you will boost your immune system, stay more healthy, lower stress levels & blood pressure, attract friends and live longer. Birding out in the park or forest assists in living a healthy life style as my second book Flight of a Fledgling explains.

This very unique and beautiful quality Australian publication is available here online by clicking the image. It can be sent to most countries. The one price includes postage. This book explores wisdom for maintaining a happy and healthy life as an young adult, in fact all adults using the behaviour of our Australian birds to share their wisdom. It has over 150 beautiful photos of Australian birds and makes an excellent gift for a late teen or young adult leaving the Nest or young couple making their way in the world together. Book comes as an A4 landscape with gloss soft cover.

Hope for living and for pushing through the difficult and dark seasons of life must have a firm faith and love basis or it will give up and fail, which sadly many young people are doing or have done in recent years. Jesus Christ who claims to be the Way, the Truth and the Life has made a way for us through the uncertainty of life and death to bring us into the light of a bright and lasting joyous future. Why not look him up if you have not already done so. My wife and I commit each day to Jesus and he leads and guides us with peace and hope, and our prayer is that you may discover the free gift of life (faith, hope and love) he wants us to know. The enemy of your soul, the Devil has perverted God’s love gift of forgiveness of all our sins and his gracious acceptance of us, despite our failures to obey God, whereby many churches and people today think we have to be good enough (whatever that means) to be accepted by God. This is a lie. Our loving Heavenly Father God knows we can not rid ourselves of our disease of sin (selfishness), history proves it. With all the advances in science and psychology, the world only becomes colder, more dangerous and more selfish.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son [Jesus] , that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. ” – John 3:16-19

True personal peace of mind and heart comes through enjoying the security of a firm hope in the , a solid faith and a heart that loves, which are only fully known by allowing Jesus to be Lord and Master of one’s life..
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed [focused] on you!” – Isaiah 26:3
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.” – Psalm 62:5
“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” – Romans 5:5

Hello dear Ash,
What beautiful colours and a reminder to keep faith and hope.
To view rainbows such as the one in your beautiful portrait and also through the Rainbow Lorikeets is a double blessing.
I have been drafting a rather long update (and thank you for your most recent messages – all arrived safely) and wish you and your wife a blessed week ahead.

They are such an amazing splash of colour and an attitude to match.
So many in our area that they are squeezing other birds out of nesting locations.
They also seem to have such a range of language, half the time I’d love to know what they are discussing.
Interesting factoid about their feeding with the shorter tongue. Never though it before.
All the best for 2025.

Thanks David, I hope your new year has started well for you and that you both enjoy opportunities to get out and about. We both hope you enjoy good health toward an enjoyable and adventurous year, considering our ages. The weather has stopped us it s either too hot or too cold wet and windy, and the birds and us have not enjoyed getting out. Yes we love seeing the Rainbows but many are surprised when we speak of how aggressive they are and how all birds have a high respect for them and do not like engaging with them, they are quite bold like the Miners. We also wonder what all their endless chatter is about. I always think they are like happy kids enjoying their candy and calling out with excitement and delight. I have been able to watch the Rainbow’s tongue action from our elevated sunroom looking directly into the flowering Bottle brush, it is quite interesting since they are not essentially honeyeaters, they have adapted an innovative way of getting the nectar. They are a skilful and clever bird. Enjoy your week my friend.

Thanks again David, for some reason I found both these comments in my spam folder just now, and directed back into my post. I will have to keep a lookout in future.

HI Ashley, I think the problem is one I caused. I’ve flushed all caches for a clean 2025 and some log in elements seem to have gone. Now for some reason I can log into my WP, but the same log-in doesn’t work for commenting on other sites.
It might just be an email address thing, I’ll have a look.
Regards

Happy new year Ashley! Lovely photos of these colourful characters. They are making a gradual return to the reserve across the road from me as different trees come in to flower, so at the moment I see flashes of bright green flying madly over my house.

Happy and Enjoyable New Year back to you Sue, hoping it is a good one. Yes these little fast flying flashes of colour are amazing at the accuracy and speed that they move through small spaces. This is the time of year to see and hear them in greater numbers. I love hearing their endless chatter to one another.
