A Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year to all my Blog Followers from Aussiebirder and his wife.

Our prayer for us all is that we may have a year of New Beginnings and Unexpected Blessings as our loving Heavenly Father guides us on our life journey along life’s sometimes rugged pathway, As I have often posted that it is in the midst of these challenging circumstances that we have opportunity to grow and mature in character as we begin to seek: The Treasures Within the Trials.

Rainbow Lorikeet are beautiful birds of Australia’s large Parrot family, that are known to pair for life, as do most of the Parrot species. Inexplicable to their beautiful often placid appearance, they are known as one of the most aggressive birds, which most species of birds avoid confrontation with. Their deep sharp beak bite is very painful. If you attack one bird the other in the pair has got your back, or should I say got theirs.

Here is a delightful video clip my wife and I witnessed just before the New Year began. We seldom ever dee Rainbow Lorikeets bathing in the way these are doing. Other birds, such as the Grey Butcherbird, cleared out when this pair came to wash, returning afterwards. We wanted to share this with you to kick off the new year.

Summer bathing fun

These birds feed on flower nectar, seeds, insects and blossom. They nest exclusively in holes in trees, in particular the Angophora Costata (Sydney Red Gum) tree which is common on our east coast, often sharing trees with the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.

In this image you can see the fruit of their labour as these two juveniles appear weeks later in the same nesting hole. Note the dark beaks and eyes along with partly undeveloped colour of feet.

    A very Happy New Year to you, your wife, and all your family!
    What a treat – to see these beautiful birds take a bath right in front of your eyes. They seemed to utterly enjoy each moment.

    I have been “offline” for the past few weeks and it’s a real joy to come back to your articles, especially this one radiating pure joy.

    There is much to catch up on (including catching up on emails – I am looking forward to it) but first, my husband and I wish you both a blessed year ahead.

    • Thanks Deborah, and Happy and Blessed New Year to you and your family also ! Yes it was a very special moment to see this pair bathing as it is a very rare occasion in our baths. They usually only sit together and have a drink, but they have copied the other birds and done the full wash routine, a true Christmas New Year Blessing for us.

  5. I loved the video of these exquisite parrots, bathing in the bird bath. The flapping of their wings, as they shook off the excess water, just glistened and sparkled like diamonds! Beautifully captured! Thank you for sharing this video.
