  1. Some grand views of the Powerful Owls. It is such a tough business for raptors. But the other birds have their own families to protect. Only so much they can do.
The scarceness of real-estate holes really does have a big impact on hole-nesting birds.
We normally would expect some Purple-crowned Lorikeets to be in residence but its not looking likely now as the holes are dominated by Rainbows or starlings.
The miserable weather is keeping us indoors at present. Its either too cold, too windy, or too wet. Sigh.

Hope the Owls find a suitable location.

  2. Hello Ash,
How wonderful that your visiting grandson could share a special moment with you and your wife at the local reserve! The Powerful Owls are always a joy to see through your lens, along with the other birds. Thank you for sharing, have a blessed week ahead.
(We are checking our post every day – will be sure to let you know when the book arrives)

    • Thanks Takami, yes my grandson was thrilled to see the owl, as we thought it had left but we had a double bonus with the female being also present. Hope the book arrives soon. It has already been a blessing to some of the people who have received it as they have shared. Have a wonderful week, you are both in our prayers and thoughs.

  3. From the profile the Powerful Owl looks more like a hawk, then when the female was looking down at you she looked like an Owl. Very cool sighting!

The little birds are great sightings as well. I’m glad you all had a lovely winter morning for it too.

    • Thanks Deborah, yes we were surprised to actually see our first profile close up of the male’s head. It looks so different from the frontal view. The female certainly has the real owl look about it with its big wide eyes. My grandson enjoyed being able to finally go out for one of our adventures as he calls them. as the other days were cold and rainy, though he enjoyed learning and jamming guitar and banjo together. He is always after tips and tricks as he calls them from his Pa.
