  1. Hello Ashley, a fine series on the most beautiful little Finches.

Watching the Red-browed and their grass presenting activity is surely something to cause us to pause, reflect and be in awe at the fine balance that makes up their lives.

We used to have good numbers of Diamond Firetails in a local stand of Grey Box forest, but sadly the numbers have dwindled and now its a rare moment indeed if we see even one.
There seems no apparent reason for the loss of numbers, but Jacky Winter have also suffered a similar decline in that area. We would often have three or four pairs on the go nesting in the season, and haven’t seen one in more than four years.

The shifting seasons must have some part to play I fear.

    • Thanks David, yes the decline is most concerning here also. We went for a lovely autumn walk on a perfect day here today and saw and heard far less birds than we had seen previously this time in the last few years. So sad your Firetails are in low number. Jackys are also in decline in NSW due to habitat loss, they are currently under observation as the decline is concerning. Enjoy your week my friend, hoping the weather is better down south,
