It was a cold clear morning about 10° C when I took a solo walk and talk with God along the track of our local Nature Reserve. I was curious to see if the Powerful Owl had shown up again and whether the Southern Boobook I posted last week was remaining in the nesting hole., and it was, but the Powerful was nowhere to be seen, so the mystery for all local birders is where are they nesting ? Here it was dozing in the sun on its balcony. Click on photo to enlarge it.

This beautiful female Golden Whistler was also very quiet since in winter they call much less. As Spring approaches the male will become quiet melodic calling to the female as well as staying off other whistlers. The male does get quite excited to be a father and lets the world know. Female Whistlers are quite inquisitive and will come quite close to get a view of me, but the male keeps away and is quite elusive.

The male is a dashing yellow and black and is often calling, having a multitude of melodies. Usually the locating call is the most frequent in Spring as he seeks his female. He is most attractive to the female and does not have to change to breeding plumage as the Fairy-wren do. We always love to hear them calling, it adds a beautiful touch to any bush walk. This is what we would hear in Spring…
My favorite bird, the Grey Butcherbird was also very quiet. It usually is calling and laughing as I walk through the bush. It also has a repertoire of tunes for each season, especially as it does the morning feeding rounds faithfully each day. This is what we would usually hear each morning…

Later, at home, beside my birdbaths after a drink, my own resident Grey Butcherbird male father greeted me. What a handsome lad he is, and always delights me each day with his calls and when I see him bathing.

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your local birds. My books are available here online at my secure purchase app. It will open in a new tab.
We will be taking next week off from posting as we explore a different part of our country. Hopefully we will have something special to share at a later date.
Many find it difficult to sit or walk quietly alone, becoming anxious and sometimes fearful. They need to have music or podcast playing to make them feel safe or peaceful with sound cancelling earplugs securely placed as they walk and work. I personally enjoy the peace and tranquility of quietness as it allows me to be spiritually mindful and hear from and speak with God. Many do not like to be left alone with their guilt and the fear and thought of bad things they have experienced or done. Jesus came to bring peace to our minds, emotions, hearts and souls, and he continues to offer it today as he is the Prince of Peace.

Jesus made peace for us with God and ourselves on our behalf, offering his life for ours. He absorbed and paid out all of our guilt and punishment for our wrongdoing on the Roman Cross as a free love gift for everyone who puts their trust in him and receives his perfect peace which comforts and strengthens us against anxiety, fear, doubt and temptation. The gift of his indwelling Holy Spirit makes this possible giving us a personal moment by moment relationship with God as our Father through Jesus.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27

Thanks Donna, yes I love my quiet times alone with God in the nature, as he gives me reasons to appreciate his workmanship and be thankful for the privilege.

Hello Ash,
I am glad you were able to enjoy a peaceful walk. It is heartwarming to see ‘Butch’ visiting you and recognising his human friends. I loved seeing the inquisitive expressions on the female Golden Whistler’s face as she observed you from above.
May you and your wife have a blessed trip next week and keeping you in our daily thoughts & prayers.

Thanks Takami, yes we love our resident birds and have come to know them and their trust has gradually increased, particularly with the Butcherbirds, Magpies, Crested Pigeon and Noisy Miners. Most of the miners are very trusting and quiet but one we call ‘Noise’ comes each day about 2.00 pm and carries on while the others quietly use the baths. They each have individual character. The female whistlers are always predictable and this one has its winter coat and looks cute. It is interesting amongst the bird pairs of each specie that either the male or female of a specie will be human shy and the other sex quite bold. Enjoy you week my friend.

I love the sounds of the grey butcherbird. There is a family that lives in the trees in my street and I always hear them throughout the day. Sometimes I see them sitting on my roof or the telegraph pole scoffing down some food. I have a soft spot for the pied butcherbirds, I think their calls are more musical, but we only have the greys here in Tassie.
