In the midst of inclement and unseasonable weather I was led to highlight the rich favour and blessing my Almighty Father God has poured over me and my book sales which have been bubbling along now for ten years.

In 2015 I published my first edition of ‘What Birds Teach Us’ now in 2025, after several sell outs and reprints, I have a larger better second edition as well as a second book ‘Flight of a Fledgling’ and a third to be published later this year. It has been a journey of faith and reliance on God, and with the assistance and faithful support of my proof reading clever wife. As many of you are aware, these books are very much a part of what this blog stands for: Appreciating our amazing clever birds and learning better ways to do life from them.
Many have wondered why my blog logo is the Red-tailed Tropicbird. It was the bird that drew me into birding and bird photography, and its pursuit was the initial curiosity what led me to this point. I travelled several times to Lord How Island and later Norfolk Island in pursuit of this bird and its acrobatic aeronautical exploits in the wild and rugged cliffs of the Pacific Ocean.

I love that friends and family frequently let me know they have seen my book in various stores and centres on their travels. They often text me a photo of one of them holding it up in the shop. My Lord keeps me alive and passionate about my mission to help our youth and young adults through my books and share through occasional talks and on the track. My first promo video has been seen by thousands of people and the QR code idea in the shop was an idea I got from the Covid which my grandsons helped me set up:
The most rewarding and encouraging aspect to my books is receiving messages and comments via email and also on my website from people who have been blessed by the content of my books. Also people who have shared how their child or grandchild has been noticeable helped from reading my books. Here are two recent messages I received in the last two weeks:
Hello Ashley,
I just read your book “What birds teach us” and really benefited from the lessons. I just wanted to say thank you for such a beautiful piece of work.
Continue the great work. It really matters.
Cheers,
Johanna
Hi Ashley,
I am super excited to be receiving your book. I initially saw it in the gift shop at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, and I loved it….
Kind regards
Adele
Over the years some of my faithful blog followers, posted reviews of my books on their own websites after receiving their copies. My books are purchased by countries world wide, primarily by tourists to our country and my blog Followers from overseas countries.
>>> Here is a link to a review by Sue a Follower from Tasmania in here blog: My Wild Australia:
The book is not available on Amazon or from any of the large distributors. This at times has been a challenge dealing with booksellers. Despite this several book sellers have said after examining the quality of my books: ‘The book sells itself !’ and they are correct it does sell well because of the unique and beautiful nature of the book. My books are available here online from my Birdbooks page (opens on a new tab) and in selected bookstores, national parks and regional visitor information centres. The list is found on my Bookshops page (opens on a new tab).

One of my favorite things I love doing in regard to my books is my yearly book signing sessions a month or two before Christmas in selected bookstores. I usually sell many books on these occasions, often surprising the staff at the bookstore.
Have a wonderful week and stay warm and dry as the weather continues to be unpredictable here.

It takes vision, courage, perseverance, commitment, passion and faith to believe and achieve in any undertaking in life. “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? … – James 2:14-26
True faith is always realised in the kind of works we produce, you can’t have faith without works, it achieves nothing.

Thanks Sue, especially for your encouraging comments and for buying my book during the early days. I also thank you that your book review is still able to accessed on your website. The second edition contains more birds but the first is now becoming a collectors item as they have been out of print several years now. I am currently sourcing my best options for publishing at present as charges and paper have increased drastically since the Covid.

Thanks Takami our dear friend, thankyou for your continuous support for my books, it is so appreciated. Thanks also for your appreciation of the books and what they bring to the youth of today. It has been a very blessed journey and I have learnt much along the way. Many lives have been encouraged and many introduced to our birds and their behaviours. So encouraged that you introduce them to your Japanese friends. Enjoy the rest of the week 🙂

Hello Ashley, Congratulations on ten years of wonderful and inspiring work.
It is really a great thing to sit and review a body of work. It takes time for the growth and the work to build, but such a worthwhile enterprise is worth all the effort.
A great series that has brought your readers closer to the wonders of the bird creation and the sense that is behind it.
Someone asked me the other day why we are in the field, in all seasons, and my answer, as always, “Because we love the birds” Wouldn’t have it any other way.
More power to you for the next 10. 🙂

Thanks David, for your most encouraging comment, it means a lot to me. I agree with you and would say the same, ‘it is because we love the birds’ that we will make sometimes great sacrifices to see them. They are always on every holiday itinerary and in our mind’s eye when out and about.
It had been a long fruitful learning journey which has had its rich rewards, not only in sales and opportunities to give talks and build relationship with my clients but more so in the positive thankful comments I receive. I love that people take the time to email me and thank me for how it has helped them or their child after purchasing books. The constant need to reprint my first book has held up the publishing of my third book. You have many beautiful stories in your many beautiful series’ of images which could be shaped into a children’s books, or even books for the not so young, Thanks again David, and enjoy your week.
