The Answers

Below are the answers to the music file I featured last week called Ash’s Aussie Avian Aria:

There were 17 different bird species in all, some repeated, some with different calls.

Here is a list in order of their appearance:

1. Wonga Pigeon (the first sound)

2. Orange-footed Scrubfowl

3. Grey Shrike-thrush (very brief, also appears later)

4. Australian Eastern ‘Black-backed’ Magpie

5. Pied Currawong

6. Pied Butcherbird

7. Laughing Kookaburra

8. Eastern Koel

9 Golden Whistler (male)

10. Lewins Honeyeater

11. Eastern Whipbird (male & female)

12. Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo

13. Rufous Whistler

14. Little Wattlebird

15. Superb Lyrebird (male)

16. Grey Butcherbird

17. Rainbow Lorikeet

How did you go ?

It wasn’t easy but it highlights the importance of learning to acquaint oneself with local bird calls, as we most often hear it before we see it.
